Consider a man riding a bicycle. Whoever he is, we can say three things about him. We know he got on the bicycle and started to move. We know that at some point he will stop and get off. Most important of all, we know that if at any point between the beginning and the end of his journey he stops moving and does not get off the bicycle he will fall off it. That is a metaphor for the journey through life of any living thing, and I think of any society of living things. --- William Golding

RECYCLERS WEEKLY BULLETIN: 14, September 2006

In addition to our traditional Sunday ride, Marty Weiss will be leading a Saturday ride as well (since he can't make Sunday's ride, and doesn't want to go another week with out riding). So here are the rides:

Saturday's Ride -

Starting near Marty's house at Del Cerro Blvd and College Ave., take College Ave to Waring Rd, through Allied Gardens and down to Grantville in Mission Gorge. From there wind our way through Mission Valley to Sea World Dr, around part of Mission Bay, ending up at Charlie's Best Breads near the corner of Garnet and Lamont in Pacific Beach. Return the same way except take Grand to Mission Bay Dr and then back out through Mission Valley. Total ride is 32 miles and the last 3 or 4 miles are mostly uphill. We'll meet at 8:00 at the parking lot of Windmill Farms (Del Cerro Blvd just east of College Ave) for the usual 8:15 roll out. Basically start is very near the College off ramp at I-8.

Sunday's Ride -

Meet at the Old Town Train Station, for a The Cabrillo Monument Ride, We will travel via the OB bike path, to Voltaire St., up oltaire ST to whatever the name of the street is (maybe Chatsworth), out to the monument. We will then head back down past and into both Shelter Island and Harbor Island, find our way into downtown, down Ash St to Second or Third St, up either one of those streets into Mission Hills, stopping, naturally, at Espresso Mio in Mission Hills for some soul food, and then back into Old Town. Meet at 8:00 in the old town parking lot. (I know this isn't the ride we discussed last week in the parking lot, but oh well)

I hope to see you all Sunday at 8:00 for our 8:15 departure.
