Weiss' Five City Ride 11/30/08

Our ride this week started from Windmill Farms in Del Cerro. The 5 cities we ride through are San Diego, La Mesa, El Cajon, Lakeside & Santee.
Guess who got to be harassed this week for being late?!
Alan got to show off his new Recyclers jersey and funny helmet.

We had wonderful weather in East County. This is E. Main St. coming into Lakeside.
Hot date? Another appointment maybe?

Marty wanted to give Alan a little "fatherly" advise but Alan refused to listen.

Marty took alot of teasing from his fellow Recyclers but he also made a bundle in donations for new tubes.

Jesmond Dene Ride 11/23/08

The Early Birds started this week from Poway. Greta, Neil, Dave & William. A wee bit foggy, damp & cold!
We were surprised to see Alan back from his 6 month world tour.
Can you tell it was cold? It took awhile to round up everyone for the picture so we could get on the road.
Another good turnout for our Jesmond Dene Ride starting at Kit Carson Park in Escondido.
The fog was so thick, Rachel couldn't find her glasses.

Half the group got lost in the business park but it was a great detour Dave.

El Monte Park, Thornburgh B-Day Ride 11/16/08

In honor of Brian's birthday, the Early Birds pulled out the party hats.
We joined up with the rest of Brian's friends and relatives at Woodglen Park in Santee for the El Monte Park Ride.

Hmmm...hard to remember who's who in this family.
Keith from Ramona was wondering how Sam talked him into this one.
Brian made a 2 yr old cry, thinking the kid would want to pose for a picture with this scary bunch.
We were shocked to learn that Marty's road bike had flat tires. He was forced to ride his commuter bike.
Bob joined us for the first time...we'll see if he shows again.
We finally got out on the road to start our ride. Those Ramonans tend to wear things a little differently than city folk.

El Monte Park must be a popular place for Renaissance organizations. This is the second time we've seen them there.
We stopped at one of Lakeside's classier establishments for coffee. Paul invited the owner to come ride with us & then had his feathers ruffled when the guy told him he'd consider it when he got to be Paul's age.
One last celebration with the birthday boy before heading back. Once again, good riding and good company!

Loma, Liberty, Zoo Ride - Halloween Week 10/26/08

Oh come on,...it's Halloween week! We had lots of chocolate eyeballs. Our Opthamologist let his melt in his pocket because he was too squeamish to eat the darn thing.
The Early Birds started from Balboa Park. Greta, William, Brian, Mary, Paul and Mike. Neil met us near the bridge.
The main group started from the Old Town Trolley station for this week's Loma, Liberty and the Zoo Too Ride.

We stopped at the famous Dracula statue off of Harbor Dr for a regroup before heading downtown.
We headed east through downtown.
We passed the fountains in Balboa Park.
Then we headed for the bridge. It turned out to be a gorgeous day, especially around Balboa Park.
Our coffee stop was at the Ziegler's home. Coffee, fruit and bread.
Carole's 4 wheeler she uses to get around on while her leg's in a cast.
A special thanks to Mike and Carole for hosting another Recycler's get together. Everyone had a good time.

Dehesa Rd Ride - No injuries to report this time! 10/19/08

We started the infamous Dehesa Road Ride from Rancho San Diego. All those riding with aches and pains had them PRIOR to starting this ride for a change.
Ginny hadn't been riding for a month so she chose our Dehesa Road Ride to ease back into tandem riding.

Neil got a flat tire on the hill and the tire changing crew had to fix it twice.
The morning started out very chilly but the day turned out to be warm and beautiful.
We stopped at the Bread Basket in Alpine. Coffee for some, breakfast for others. No more "Curves for Men" and the other businesses that use to be there on the east side.
Most stayed for breakfast.
Paul, Brian and a few other calorie counters headed back early. Another very nice day of riding!

OTC Ride 10/12/08

You know you're a true Recycler when you can't quite remember what your club jersey's suppose to look like.
Question: How many Recyclers does it take to pump up one tire?...
Answer: Two. One to pump and one to tell the other how he's doing it wrong.
Another "Dave" returned to joined us on this ride. We hadn't seen him in awhile.
How LONG does it take two Recyclers to pump up one tire?...Oh, never mind. Jeff wanted it known that he made two Recycler Sunday rides in a row.
We started at Marina View Park in Chula Vista for our Olympic Training Center Ride. Chilly morning to start but the day warmed up.
We headed south to the border then east along the Tijuana River Valley. (Mike Z)

We headed back North through Chula Vista and into Bonita.
Potty stop. Paul felt so guilty that we all used the restrooms in this store without buying anything, he bummed a dollar off of Jeff to give to the lady at the cash register... Nice of Jeff to ease Paul's guilt.

We stopped at a Starbucks for a break. Brian didn't have time to drink his coffee before we started to leave ...but it DIDN'T MAKE HIM GRUMPY!

ARM WARMERS IN! Solana Beach to Oceanside 10/5/08

Check out those arm warmers! The Early Birds are the first to show off the newest addition to the Recyclers' line of clothing.
Early Birds met up with the main group at the Solana Beach Train Station for the ride to Oceanside. Some of Dave's cycling friends showed up to ride with us.
More "firsts" this Sunday...besides wearing the new arm warmers, this was Jeff & Sara's first time wearing matching Recycler jerseys!
19 people showed for our first of the month "Sauntering Sunday" ride from Solana Beach to Oceanside.

Steve was back riding with us. We hadn't seen him in a long while.
Waiting for Bob Groff.................................................. We thought we'd be meeting Bob in Carlsbad...we were wrong. He stayed in bed.

The place was buzzing with excitement!

Tour de Campus Ride 9/28/08

Several streets were blocked off for a special event where the Early Birds were to meet so we ended up with two different starting points.
The main group started from Mission Bay for the Tour de Campus Ride.
Mike was a good citizen by picking up the trash in the park.
Marty and Manuel heading up to the UCSD campus. The fog was quite thick for the first part of this ride through La Jolla.

This is a very scenic route...we just weren't able to see much of it.
Carol was finally able to join us for a ride this week.

Poinsettia to San Marcos Ride 9/21/08

This week we started from the Poinsettia Train Station in Carlsbad.
A few people we haven't seen in awhile showed up as did some newcomers.

Sam finally came out to ride with us after making our MIA list. He had some bike problems along the way.
George met up with us along the route. He also had missed enough rides to make our MIA list.
A nice new park area and restrooms were built at the end of the San Luis Rey River bike path.

Dan is now wearing a Recyclers jersey. We're always amazed by those who are willing to be associated with us.

Oceanside to San Onofre Ride 9/14/08

This week's ride started from Oceanside. We had a fairly large group to start with but several Recyclers didn't ride the full route.

We rode as far as San Onofre then turned around and took a break at one of our usual rest areas.
The main event for some, was a lady rider who passed by in a bikini. Marty was going to give her a Recyclers business card but the thought slipped his mind when he caught up to her.

Bike The Bay special event 9/7/08

Several of us Recyclers met at 5:45AM at the Administration Building to ride to the Bike the Bay starting point behind the Convention Center.
We met up with Paul who volunteered for the event.
This was the scene at registration when we arrived.
This was the long line of riders behind us at the start.

Jeff and Sarah showed up with the SD Tandem club but at least Jeff wore the correct club jersey...(even if is was the OLD one)

Paul lead out our group of riders but we never saw him again after a few miles as he had to stop and help out some riders along the route.

It was very overcast in the early morning hours when we rode over the bridge.

Who Ordered The Rain?!! Dos Picos Park 11/9/08

The weather report for Ramona was "cloudy skies". These are the Recyclers who believed the weather report.

The weather was fine when we started but the dark clouds followed us. Several miles out, the wind picked up and the skies unloaded buckets of rain on us.
Marty was the only one who came prepared.
William waited until he was soaked to the bone before he decided it might be a good idea to put on his rain jacket.
An extra pair of sox came in handy too as it got a little cold.
Pouring rain and howling winds didn't slow Brian.
We detoured from our original route as the weather became rather nasty and the roads a little challenging.
Ramona's weather wasn't ideal but hey,...any day's a good day for a bike ride!
