Mankind has invested more than four million years of evolution in the attempt to avoid physical exertion. Now a group of backward-thinking atavists mounted on foot-powered pairs of Hula-Hoops would have us pumping our legs, gritting our teeth, and searing our lungs as though we were being chased across the Pleistocene savanna by saber-toothed tigers. Think of the hopes, the dreams, the effort, the brilliance, the pure force of will that, over the eons, has gone into the creation of the Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Bicycle riders would have us throw all this on the ash heap of history. ~P.J. O'Rourke
We have a very special event and ride scheduled for June 7th 2009, our Second Somewhat-Annual Recyclers' Bicycle Club Picnic. The ride this day will start and finish at De Anza Cove on Mission Bay. Neil has planned a couple of new fun rides for us on this day. The rides are two parts, both starting from the picnic spot. The first will have some moderate hill climbing, it goes out Mission Valley to Jack Murphy Stadium and then returns to the start. The second will be a "Social Cruise" around Mission Bay, very flat and easy, and intended to include everyone. It will also start and end a the picnic spot. The picnic spot is kid friendly, so please invite family and friends to join us. Watch this web site and your email for more information, but mark June 7th, 2009 on your calendars. It will be a pot-luck affair, so plan to bring a dish to share. A BBQ will be provided for those who want to Barbeque and there will be ice chests to keep drinks and meats cold while we ride. Bring your picnic equipment (games, chairs, etc) with you. This event is open to all who want to attend whether you ride or not.
Email the webmaster and tell me what food you plan to bring to share, and I will add it to the page below. That way we won't end up with twelve bowls of Potato Salad.
We also need a couple of hearty souls to hang out from 7:00 AM to preserve the picnic spot. There are no reservations, so it's on a first come first serve basis. Please let me know if you will volunteer and I'll add thatd information to the page below.
I would also like to suggest that those riding the early ride, bring a plastic table cloth and perhaps an ice chest. That way we can put those items on tables to "claim" them.
Distance: 26.4 Miles

We scheduled this ride early, to allow for Part Two to start at 9:00 AM
